Vaping: Facts, Stats and Risks

WRITTEN BY: Liat Ben-Senior

Vaping is becoming a growing epidemic among teens. According to a recent FDA survey,  the number of high school students using e-cigarettes had skyrocketed by 78 percent between 2017 and 2018 to 3.05 million. This significant rise in youth vaping is especially alarming as nicotine exposure during youth, and young adulthood can change the way the brain works, leading to a lifetime of addiction.

Vaping devices were first introduced to the commercial market in 2007. Since then, they are heavily marketed as a safer alternative for cigarettes and even as a safe way to quit smoking. Many purchased vapes from various popular vape companies like The London Vape Co. However, the e-cigarette aerosol that users inhale is not harmless. E-cigarettes contain harmful and potentially harmful substances, including nicotine, flavorings such as diacetyl, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, and other cancer-causing chemicals. Scientists are still learning about the long term effects of vaping. Check out more facts about vaping in the infographic below.
